So tonight on Becca’s livestream, we started discussing how long we each had been in the Phandom and it got me thinking.

How long have you been in the Phandom? Literally, I want to know. Like I’m actually genuinely curious.

Oh god, episode one! I remember watching the kids choice awards just so I wouldn’t miss it! I was excited because I’d gotten into this love of superheros (mostly because of the Spiderman movies) and I was excited about a character who would be around my age. I was twelve at the time. I used to record the episodes on tape and my friend didn’t have cable, so I would hold the phone up to the tv so she could at least hear the episodes!

Again, episode one. I loved to daydream about my favorite tv shows. I didn’t actually start to get into fanfiction till my friend showed me about it years later (just fanfiction. I ventured out into DP on my own and that took a while because it was early years, when fics were still very juvenile. The cooler ones came as I searched later). When I got to some of the good fics, I started to get sucked back in and I’ve sort of stayed. :D

I would have to say this story I was/am writing. I liked the concept of it, but I’m more graphic designer than writer, so I tend to not finish writing. Other than that, it would be my writing journal. 90% of it is DP. Not even kidding. I probably have a few oneshots that could be put out, but I’m always nervous about publishing writing. :/

Everyone talks about how DP wasn’t really taken seriously for dramatic potential until TUE, which definitely pushed the Y7-FV rating. But I can think of at least two really chilling moments that occurred before TUE that never fail to make me shiver.

1. Bitter Reunions the first time Vlad calls…

Ah this questions totally explains why I liked, and still liked this show to this day. They were a lot of little (and sometimes big) moments that showed that there could so much more, but they didn’t go anywhere with. (hence the very awesome, still active community.)

I gotta give Secret Weapons a shout out. It was the episode after TUE and it holds my favorite moment in the series. It’s a small moment, but when he and his sister fought she was in that suit that could make someone as powerful as the Ghost King. And my favorite part of it was when he caught her fist dead in the air and got serious. I felt like it was a moment that showed his possible potential and how scary powerful he could one day be, no matter what the outcome. It’s probably like thirty seconds long, but it’s still my favorite. :3

Am I the only person who really doesn’t like when fan conventions or fanon get universally adopted in stories across a fandom as if they’re canon?

Like the other characters calling the Other Yugi “Yami,” which they never did in canon.

Like Paulina’s last name as Sanchez.

Like calling the evil…

Ah this post really made me think! I have a story using Dark Future Danny (it’s a WIP) and I wasn’t sure if I’d ever called him ‘Dan’. I didn’t, it was always ‘Danny’ or ‘Phantom’, which reminded me why I’d actually chosen that scheme for the name.

When I started to write the story, I had this idea that the name would be a great subtle way of showing change. The narrator is Sam and as change happens, she shifts in her usage of his name. Danny is her friend, so of course she’d refer to him as Danny, but as things change, I opted for Phantom. I remember thinking it would be kind of a neat affect that shows several parallels within the story (ie, Valerie calling him Phantom, ect).

I’m glad you posted this, I’d totally forgotten! I’ll have to add this in my notes for the story so I don’t forget again! :D
